"JUST LIKE THE LOTUS we too have the ability to rise from mud, BLOOM OUT OF THE DARKNESS and radiate into the world."

Meet Dr. Elana Rimler

President and Practice Owner

As your therapist, I will help you share your story to better understand how it may be presenting problems for you in the present, because as Maya Angelou wrote, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”( I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings)

You may have patterns of handling relationships or experiences and want to get unstuck from your usual patterns. Sessions will feel collaborative, respectful and non-judgmental and will be focused on your treatment goals. You will find sessions to be practical, highlighting your/your child’s strengths. You will gain tools that you can apply to life’s many challenges.

About the Practice

My therapy practice is called Lotus Psychology Practice because I find myself inspired by the lotus flower. It grows beautifully out of the mud. Many get stuck in the mud and fail to see their inner strengths and beauty.

Who I Treat

Through working for New York City’s public hospital system for many years, I was honored to have helped people from all walks of life. My niche is to work with people who have a hard time connecting, have lost hope, or are just feeling stuck.

I enjoy working with children, adolescents and adults, particularly with life transitions, depression, anxiety, Tourette and trauma, but people don’t fit so neatly into just one diagnostic category nor social group, so I do possess a wide range of training and experiences. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you’d like to see if I treat a challenge you have and if we would be a good fit.

Treatments and Assessments Offered

Cognitive Behavioral
(CBT)

CBT

Cognitive-behavioral therapy stresses the role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. It is based on the belief that thoughts, rather than people or events, cause our negative feelings. The therapist assists the client in identifying, testing the reality of, and correcting dysfunctional beliefs underlying his or her thinking.

Integrative

Integrative

Integrative therapy refers to therapy in which elements from different types of therapy may be used. Therapists 'integrate' two or more therapeutic styles (e.g. Cognitive and Family Systems) to bring about a personalized and practical approach to healing.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy
(DBT)

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is the treatment most closely associated with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Therapists practice DBT in both individual and group sessions. The therapy combines elements of CBT to help with regulating emotion through distress tolerance and mindfulness. The goal of Dialectical Behavior Therapy is to alleviate the intense emotional pain associated with BPD.

Screen Addiction

Screen Addiction

Assessments

Various assessments including executive function testing, depression, anxiety, career interest inventories, and more are incorporated into your treatment to help gauge treatment progress. Also the ADOS-2 can be administered in my office and at home to help determine whether you/your loved one meets criteria for an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis.

Parent Training

Parent Training

Parent training, is a family of treatment programs that aims to change parenting behaviors, teaching parents positive reinforcement methods for improving pre-school and school-age children's behavior problems (such as aggression, hyperactivity, temper tantrums, and difficulty following directions).

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a method of therapy that works to engage the motivation of clients to change their behavior. Clients are encouraged to explore and confront their ambivalence. Therapists attempt to influence their clients to consider making changes, rather than non-directively explore themselves.
